Publications: Life’s Lessons in Print
Bro. Steve’s illness was a serious time of testing for the Gaines’ family, but through it, God allowed him to write a 365-day devotional book. In the foreword of Morning Manna, Dr. Adrian Rogers wrote, “Steve Gaines has a heart for God. These devotional thoughts are not the musings of an armchair philosopher or even the fruitful findings of a scholar who sits at his desk. They are, rather, gems mined from the quarry of God’s Word and then polished with prayer.”
The book, which Dr. Rogers called “straightforward but beautifully crafted,” has challenged, inspired, and comforted many people since its publication in 2003. Morning Manna is currently in its eight printing with over 21,000 copies sold and 24,000 copies in print.
In 2005 Broadman Holman Publishing Company asked Steve to write a book about a subject close to his heart: the need for spiritual awakening. Published in 2007, When God Comes to Church contends that worship services should not be designed primarily to attract people, but rather to attract the manifest presence of God, and that He in turn will attract the people.
While at Gardendale, Donna shared her own life’s lessons as a gifted Bible teacher in women’s ministry and as a conference speaker. At the request of Broadman Holman, she expanded a Bible study she had written on the Spirit-filled life into her first book, and it was published in 2008. In the foreword of There’s Gotta Be More, author Evelyn Christenson wrote, “This book should be, will be, recognized as a classic of living the Christian life in this period of our history—with our More—Jesus.”
