Far Above Jewels
Next month my wife and I will celebrate 30 years of marriage. I agree 100 per cent with Proverbs 31:10: “An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.”
When our children were younger, Donna went out of town and I entered a realm known as “Mom World.” I picked up our youngest daughter from school at 3:00 p.m. After a staff meeting at 3:30, I took her home so she could change clothes, and then I drove her cheernastics practice at 5:30.
Our middle daughter called and said, “Dad, where are you? You were supposed to pick me up at cheerleading practice at 5:30!” I picked her up and took her home. When we arrived, my oldest daughter wanted to know what was for supper. I said, “Supper?” You guessed it—we ate warmed-up pizza and corndogs that night!
The following morning we ate breakfast at a diner. I took the youngest girl to school and then met the two older girls for physicals at the doctor’s office. I went on to work, but that afternoon it all began again. The oldest had a tutoring session and a Bible study. The middle daughter had cheerleading practice at 5:30, followed by choir rehearsal at 6:30. I preached at our church at 7:00.
When Donna returned, I hugged her and said, “Sweetheart, how do you do it? You must be Superwoman!” She laughed and said, “It’s okay. I’m back. You can relax now.”
I thank God for my “excellent wife” and for every godly woman who daily serves the Lord and her family. Heavenly crowns await these precious ladies. Their worth is far above jewels!
