The Greatest Gift

Photo by Flickr user lars hammar.Christmas is about giving. The greatest Bible verse of all, John 3:16, says, “For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son.”

The best gift you’ll ever receive won’t be found wrapped under a Christmas tree. Instead, you’ll find it at the foot of Calvary’s cross.

Before Jesus ever came to this earth, He existed as God. Colossians1:15-20 says that in Jesus dwells all the fullness of deity in bodily form. Before His birth in Bethlehem, Jesus reigned on high as the King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

But to save mankind, He set aside His glory and lived on earth in the form of a man, while retaining His full deity.

Jesus was born, ultimately, to die. He gave up His life as a sacrifice to pay for our sins and for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2).

The angel told Joseph the name that he and Mary were to name the baby she was carrying. He said, “You shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).

Have you received God’s greatest gift—salvation? This Christmas, do you know someone who needs to know Jesus as Savior? Don’t wait! Tell them today about the greatest gift they can ever receive.
