America Needs Prophetic Preachers

Photo by Flickr user fatmanad. For America to continue as a strong, God-blessed nation, we need prophetic preachers. Too many preachers today mishandle the Word of God by telling their people that the Christian life is all about “living your best life now.” Instead, we desperately need preachers who will stand for God and against sin and say, “Thus says the Lord!”

In Ezekiel 3:17-19 God told the prophet Ezekiel to speak out and to warn those who were practicing wickedness, or sin. Otherwise, God said that Ezekiel would have their blood on his hands. If the people did not heed the warning, however, Ezekiel knew that he had done what the Lord commanded.

I believe that God is saying that to preachers in America today, but too many are not listening to Him, nor are they willing to speak for Him. Our nation needs preachers who will walk with God. Non-Christians need to see a sermon before they hear one. America needs real men of God who walk the walk and don’t just talk the talk.

We also need preachers who spend time in humble prayer before God’s throne of grace. When preachers spend plenty of time in God’s presence, they’ll be so enamored with Him they won’t be afraid of any man!

The Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:8, “If the trumpet makes an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for battle?” I believe that one reason we’re not ready for spiritual warfare in our day is because we don’t have the right kind of trumpeters in our pulpits. We’re sick and tired of hearing about “health, wealth, and prosperity.” America needs courageous preachers who know the Bible, live the Bible, and proclaim the Bible with boldness, conviction, and compassion.

The world's sinful attractions are proving to be too great for many Christians today as evidenced by our divorces, undisciplined and/or deviant lifestyles, untrained children, provocative dress, materialism,
idols (television, computers, cellphones, etc. to name a few) and entertainment. We are no longer focusing our heart and attention on God and His Word so we have become easy prey for Satan and his demons. Many pastors refuse to address these obvious sins within their own congregations and
call them by name, especially abortion, homosexuality, adultery, pride of the flesh, etc.. Rarely do we
hear the word "sin" from the pulpit. How will we ever return to obedience to God and His Word if we
have our ears tickled with sermons that bring no conviction to our hearts? My husband and I listened
to a sermon on television that you preached at Gardendale a few years ago and you warned the
young people about the way they were dressing and how it affected their Christian testimony. That is
the last time I think we have heard that warning. Now, of course, it is certainly no longer just the young people, but many adults are dressing like the unbelievers. We regret that we can no longer hear
you on television but we do watch on your website. We are thankful for your bold preaching of the whole counsel of God. May God richly bless you, your family and your congregation at Bellevue.
